What I collect, and what I do with it.

Who I am

This Is Nakeshia is the business of Nakeshia Shannon, based in Williamston, South Carolina. The site is thisisnakeshia.com. You can reach me any time at nakeshia@nakeshiashannon.com.

The newsletter

If you subscribe to The Good Light, I collect your email address. Subscriptions are handled by Jetpack, which is run by Automattic, and your address is stored on their systems as well as mine. I use it to send you the newsletter and nothing else. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.

The contact form

The form on my contact page is hosted by Dubsado, the client management system I use to run the business. When you fill it in, the information you type — your name, business name, email address, social handle, what you’re looking for, and how you found me — goes to Dubsado and to my inbox. I use it to reply to you and to keep track of our conversation if we end up working together. Dubsado has its own privacy policy covering how they store it.

Analytics

I use Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats to see which pages people visit, roughly where in the world they are, and what brought them here. This tells me whether the writing is landing. It does not tell me who you are by name. Both services set cookies and both collect an anonymized version of your IP address.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a site leaves in your browser. Mine come from three places: WordPress.com, which hosts the site; the analytics services above; and embedded content from other websites. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work.

Embedded content from other sites

Some pages include Instagram posts and other embedded content. Those behave exactly as if you had visited the other site directly — they can collect data about you, set their own cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content. That happens under their rules, not mine.

Who sees your information

I do not sell your information, trade it, or hand it to advertisers. The only parties who touch it are the services that make the site run: Automattic (WordPress.com hosting and the Jetpack newsletter), Google (Analytics), and Dubsado (the contact form and client records). Each of those has its own privacy policy. Beyond that, I would only share something if the law required it.

How long I keep it

Newsletter subscriptions stay until you unsubscribe. Contact form submissions and client records stay in Dubsado while we are working together and for as long afterward as I need them for tax and business records. Analytics data is retained on the schedule those services set.

Your rights

You can ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email me and I will do it — you do not need a reason and it does not have to be a formal request. The one exception is information I am required to keep for legal, tax, or accounting purposes. If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to receive a copy of your data in a portable format, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

This site is meant for business owners and is not directed at children. I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given me information, email me and I will remove it.

Photography and client work

If you hire me, photographs and video from your session are covered by the agreement we sign, not by this policy. That agreement says what I may show publicly and what stays private. If you appear in a photograph on this site and want it taken down, email me and I will take it down.

Changes to this policy

If I add a tool or change how something works, I will update this page and change the date at the top. Nothing here is meant to be clever — if something reads as unclear to you, tell me and I will rewrite it.
